Who and how to reach us
This policy covers abyssalescape.org. The operator’s address is contact@abyssalescape.org. The site does not ask you to create an account.
What actually loads
The first HTML loads Google Analytics 4 (gtag.js, measurement ID G-15DKNH3LVW) in Consent Mode v2: before the config call, an inline stub runs gtag("consent","default") with ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization, and analytics_storage set to denied, and it turns on ads_data_redaction and url_passthrough. No AdSense unit is present.
Adsterra ads are not part of that first HTML either. The page ships a local script (/scripts/ads.js) that holds the two unit URLs as strings; it appends the Adsterra loader only after you allow ads, and never while the choice is undecided or denied. The native banner appears in the page body, the Social Bar in a fixed bar at the bottom that has its own Close ad button. If you close the bar, the preference is remembered for 180 days and the bar returns only after that.
Microsoft Clarity (project z06wpthzhx) is not part of that first HTML. Its loader exists only after you accept: no clarity.ms request is made while the choice is undecided or denied, so no recording tag can start before consent.
Video posters are hosted on this site. YouTube loads only when you allow selected videos and then select one, or explicitly confirm “Load video once”. A rejected or expired preference does not load a player. Cookie settings lets you reject again; doing so removes any loaded player. Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track prevents automatic use of a saved allowance, so each video needs a fresh confirmation.
The player uses www.youtube-nocookie.com. After loading, YouTube/Google may request assets from www.youtube.com, i.ytimg.com, *.googlevideo.com, *.gstatic.com, *.google.com, or *.ggpht.com, depending on the video and region. These services receive network data including your IP address and browser details. Privacy-enhanced mode does not make playback anonymous. Browser storage, cookies, and retention depend on the provider and your settings; we do not claim a fixed cookie list. See Google privacy policy and YouTube privacy-enhanced mode.
- localStorage key ae_consent — JSON with choice (granted or denied) and ts (milliseconds). Purpose: remember your optional-media preference, including a rejection. Expires after 180 days; evaluated locally, not sent to our server.
- First-party file /scripts/consent.js — reads that key, toggles the menu, builds the YouTube iframe after a click, and calls the Clarity and Adsterra loaders once consent is granted. No cookie of its own.
- localStorage key ae_ad_bar_closed — JSON with ts (milliseconds), written only when you press Close ad on the Social Bar. Purpose: keep that bar closed. Expires after 180 days; evaluated locally, not sent to our server.
- If you allow ads, Adsterra requests its loader from bicea.org: unit 31816236 (NativeBanner_1, https://bicea.org/21/…) and unit 31816237 (SocialBar_1, https://bicea.org/14/…). Adsterra and the demand partners it calls receive your IP address, user agent, and the page URL, and may set cookies or localStorage on their own domains for frequency capping, fraud prevention, and (unless you opt out) personalised advertising. We do not control those names or lifetimes and do not claim a fixed cookie list. See the Adsterra privacy policy for its retention periods and vendor list.
- If you allow analytics, Clarity requests www.clarity.ms/tag/z06wpthzhx, then its SDK from scripts.clarity.ms, and reports to *.clarity.ms (collect). It records clicks, scrolls, and page rendering with form inputs masked by default, and may set cookies on the clarity.ms domain. Retention and cookie lifetime belong to Microsoft and your settings; we do not claim a fixed cookie list. See the Microsoft privacy statement and Clarity data and cookies.
- If Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track is on, the banner choice is treated as denied.
Legal basis, retention, and ad opt-out
Where the law requires consent (for example the EU and UK ePrivacy rules and the GDPR), the legal basis for Adsterra advertising, Microsoft Clarity, and YouTube playback is your consent, given by pressing Allow ads, videos and analytics or Load video once. You can withdraw it at any time through Cookie settings; withdrawal does not affect processing that already happened.
The legal basis for serving the pages, keeping them secure, and answering your email is our legitimate interest in running a public archive. We do not sell personal information and we do not profile readers ourselves; Adsterra and its demand partners may personalise ads using their own signals.
Our own retention: ae_consent and ae_ad_bar_closed each expire 180 days after they are written and never leave your browser. Adsterra, Microsoft, and Google set their own retention for the requests they receive; their policies, not this page, define those periods.
To opt out of personalised advertising, use the Adsterra opt-out or the industry choice page at Your Online Choices. Blocking the bicea.org loader in your browser also removes the ads. Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track is treated as a rejection on this site.
Hosting and contact messages
Cloudflare provides hosting and email routing for this domain. Hosting requests include your IP address, requested URL, and browser headers for delivery and security. Email sent to contact@abyssalescape.org is forwarded through Cloudflare Email Routing to a private Gmail mailbox operated by the editor; Cloudflare and Google process the message for delivery. We use messages only to answer the request and keep correspondence only while needed to handle it. Do not send account passwords or sensitive information. See Cloudflare privacy policy and Google privacy policy.
Rights, ads, and changes
You can ask for access, correction, or deletion of any note you emailed us, and you can erase ae_consent and ae_ad_bar_closed yourself. Cookie settings reopens the banner, and rejecting there removes optional media and stops Clarity and the Adsterra units on later page views; a script that already ran on the current page cannot be unloaded retroactively, so reload after rejecting. You can complain to your local data authority. Adsterra ads are not personalised by us; use the opt-out links above for the network’s own personalisation. Contact contact@abyssalescape.org about this policy or your correspondence.
This text was updated on 2026-10-19, when the Adsterra native banner and Social Bar replaced the ad-free setup. A material change will bump that date on this page. Cookie aliases /cookies/, /cookie-policy/, and /privacy-policy/ redirect here.
Questions
Do you run ads?
Yes. Adsterra (publisher 3403020) serves one native banner and one closable Social Bar. Neither loads until you press Allow ads, videos and analytics: the first HTML contains no ad script, only a local loader. Adult and erotic ad categories are switched off in the Adsterra panel, we add no AdSense unit, and rejecting keeps the ad host out of the page. Google Analytics runs with consent storage denied. Microsoft Clarity session recording loads only if you allow it, and rejects stay rejected.
How do I change my choice?
Use Cookie settings in the footer. That reopens the banner. A rejection stops Clarity and the Adsterra ads from loading on every later page view and removes any loaded player. You can also delete the localStorage keys ae_consent and ae_ad_bar_closed in your browser.
